Hamilton Beach Programmable Slow Cooker July 27, 2010 Pat This programmable slow cooker by Hamilton Beach is just as described. It is easy to use and works great! The only thing that would be a plus would be the addition of a cookbook.
Really nice July 26, 2010 A. Cerny Hey, I like to eat, what can I say. It is so long between preparing and eating that you feel like someone else made the meal:> The price is right as it was more expensive at a local discount store. Have not used the temperature probe yet. I would highly recommend it! This is a great slow cooker! It has been used almost weekly and each meal has been easy and tasty. Great to walk home to the smell of dinner! As one who does not like to cook, this is a must-have appliance.
A Real Time Saver! July 26, 2010 David G. Blakeney (YORKTOWN, VA, US) This was a gift for a friend and she loves it! It allows her to "set and forget" without the worry of over cooking! Exactly what she needed to make all the good, healthy meals she loves to make for her family! The cooking probe ensures when she cooks roasts that the meat reaches the required temperature to be fully cooked. The 6 quart size accomodates the largest meals with ease! Exactly what she wanted! You can't miss with this one!
Not what I was expecting July 25, 2010 Justin Lambert This crockpot works very well but it is not what I was expecting when I read "programmable". I was expecting to be able to set a time to turn on so if something needed to be cooked on high we could have it turn on at a specified time. The way this is programmable is that you can tell it how many hours to cook and at what level of temperature. Overall a good slow cooker so far though.
Problem Has Not Been Fixed July 23, 2010 J. Ball I had been debating buying this slow cooker for several weeks. It has all the features that I was looking for, did well in consumer tests, was priced right, and had a fair number of glowing reviews.
The only thing that gave me pause was that many of the negative reviews all stated the exact same problem, which was that the cooker would sometimes switch itself completely off for no reason. This of course was a very big concern.
I decided to take a chance and buy it anyway, secretly hoping that others has just received a batch of duds and/or that Hamilton Beach had corrected the problem.
Unfortunately, I was wrong. The very first time I used the cooker to make a chicken and vegetable dish the slow cooker shut itself off completely approximately 3 hours into cooking for no reason. It wasn't overfilled and it was plugged in correctly. Fortunately, I was at home that day so I was able to turn it back on within a few minutes.
I promptly returned it for a refund and bought the Cuisinart PSC-400 4 Quart Programmable Slow Cooker, Brushed Stainless Steel instead which has worked like a dream, doesn't take up as much space on the counter and is the perfect size for my family of four.
Buyer beware. Hamilton Beach knows that their cooker has this problem but they have no plans to fit it.
FYI:
While the snap shut lid on the Hamilton Beach is an attractive feature, I found it a bit cumbersome to lock and unlock.
