Disappointed July 31, 2010 Sierra 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My Jiffy J-4000 arrived today and I immediately began testing the steamer.
My first problem is with the height of the pole, too short for my bad back.
The next thing to happen is the hose touched my leg leaving a red hot area.
The handle also gets very hot and after steaming five t-shirts, it was too hot to continue. It is definitely a big sturdy steamer. It is difficult to lift and empty the water tank. I will be sending it back and ordering a smaller model with insulation on the hose. You would not want to use this steamer around a small child.
good for short folks July 21, 2010 chubby 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The hanger pole and hose are way too short. you have to bend over the entire time you are steaming clothes. steaming anything recommended by the book over 4foot is impossible! we are sending it back! and it was $100. cheaper a week after ordering through amazon!
Jiffy does not disappoint May 4, 2010 B. MAHTANI (Pittsburgh, PA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Jiffy J-4000 Proline steamer is a daunting purchase for a recently graduated businessman who hates ironing. At $200 from Amazon, the cost of purchasing one of these things is the cost of about 100 dry cleaned and pressed shirts (about 6 months worth) at the local dry cleaners. However, I decided to give it a try, knowing that I could return it if I hated it.
The steamer arrived 4 days after I ordered it, thanks to Amazon's free and fast shipping. Putting it together was a joke, and within 10 minutes I was preheating the water. (A word of advice, let the machine preheat all the way before turning it to steam mode.) I am currently used to turning the preheat on before I shower, then turning it to steam immediately when I get back to my room, and it will be ready when I need to use it.
Using the machine seems simple, but there is a method that seems to work best. First, make sure you are sitting down. You can't use it standing up, and kneeling is uncomfortable. I used my computer chair, and that worked great.
Once the preheat indicator turns off, turn the dial to steam. It will take a few minutes before steam starts coming out of the nozzle, so be patient. Once you see the steam, it's ready to go.
I don't steam any women's clothing, so this is solely catered to males. Hold one end of one sleeve and work the nozzle down the sleeve horizontally. Do this twice. Then move to the front of the shirt. Hold the shirt at the bottom, and move the nozzle slowly down the shirt. You don't have to press the nozzle deeply into the shirt. Just hold it directly against, and even slightly off the shirt. Continue to the other side, then to the other sleeve, then turn the shirt around and do the back. Th entire process for 1 long sleeved dress shirt is about 8 minutes. A t-shirt takes about 2.
This beast of a machine dissolves the toughest wrinkles fairly easily. Of course, the thinker the material, the longer it will take to steam, but overall, the machine is great and should last for a long time, making it one of the best purchases I have ever made.
Great Steamer April 5, 2010 Not an Audiophile (CA) I love this product. The only drawback is that it takes roughly 20-30 minutes to warm up. It's not a device you can use right before work. It works great when I do have the time. I'm glad I purchased the more expensive commercial model because the I don't get some of the problems with dripping water as with some of the less powerful home devices. The one think you really need to be careful with the steam because it gets everywhere. I found a couple of oven mitts extremely helpful while steaming clothing. I agree this sounds rediculous but if anyway has a better suggestion, let me know.
The J-2000 may have been more useful February 11, 2010 Truth to Power (San Francisco) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This steamer is very effective and simple to operate. I use it to get wrinkles out of delicate sweaters and dresses. It gets the most egregious wrinkles out of cotton, but you shouldn't expect a "pressed" look from even the best steamer. Protect your skin while using.
However, I strongly feel that it is just too much for home use. It's HUGE, probably 3-4 times as big as the J-2000 and it is not easy to fill and empty (which you should do to prevent rusting). I'm pretty petite and lifting the thing and then turning on its side or upside down to empty it is hard for me. I'm considering getting a siphon to help me with the job. The J-2000 has a little jug that you can simply remove. Not to mention that I've spied at least a couple of stores at the mall (french connection and J Jill) actually use the J-2000.... If it's good enough for them, it would probably have been good enough for my purposes.
It's too late for me to make a change now, but I would have gone with the J-2000 had I realized these things.
