If only I could think of a use for a pint of dead flies August 31, 2010 Rhiiow I have a small flock of chickens in an urban backyard and they attract a lot of flies. Since I hate flies and was also concerned about annoying my neighbors, I set this trap up near the chicken coop. I had the same problem as several other reviewers at first, where the flies would go in and then come out again. A little research revealed the problem. The powder has to dissolve well in the water and this does not happen if you use cold water. The instructions on the trap do not specify warm water, but the Rescue website does. I solved the problem by shaking the trap gently a few times during the first couple days and putting it in the sun. As soon as the powder really dissolved, the flies stayed trapped. I was surprised how well it worked and the flies seem to prefer it to the coop. If I had a big enough trap, I think it would catch every fly in the neighborhood!
Emptying the trap was unpleasant, as expected, but I like that it's reusable. The trap does not have to be rinsed, just emptied. A few dead flies in the refilled trap don't hurt anything. Luckily, flies aren't smart enough to be afraid when they see another fly has died in there.
Fly Trap? August 18, 2010 Rene Perreault (Camarillo, CA United States) I have had this product sitting on my patio table for two days now and it hasen't trapped a single fly. It does seem to attract them though. I have seen two or three flys walking on the lid while two or three of them are landing on me. They walk in the holes on top and walk right out. I am very disappointed in this product and would not recommend it. I will try to return it to Home Depot where I bought it and look for something else.

The flys MUST DIE! June 28, 2010 J. Vestal This thing Works! Gets the common house fly and those vicious biting flys. Man, I HATE those things! They NEVER GIVE UP! The rescue FTA-SF4 is also reuseable. You do have to buy more of the stinky stuff you mix in the water that attracts the flys.I Did not give it 5 stars because it needs to be bigger to hold more flys. I have to empty mine every week which means you have to put more of the stinky powder in it. Which means more $. But hey, IT WORKS!
It's negligible impact wasn't worth the smell June 4, 2010 Free Thinker We live in Phoenix and have 2 large dogs. We clean their waste daily, but still get inundated with flies every summer. We hung this trap in the sun in the corner of our yard where the dogs like to "go", so there were already a lot of flies over there. We have a typical city-sized lot surrounded by a wall. We kept the water at the line. At first it caught a few flies per day. Then it started working better; it is true that the more flies in the trap, the more it catches. After 2-3 weeks there were probably 20 flies alive & stuck in the trap at any given time. But there are still a constant 200+ flies buzzing around our patio, the dog beds, the dogs, our kids toys, and everywhere else. Ahhhh it' so gross - I hate flies! Anyway, this thing smells like a strong public toilet, the kind at gas stations when you decide you'll "hold it" rather than go in. We finally decided that the smell wasn't worth the unnoticeable impact that it was having on the flies. We threw it out after about a month. My husband thinks the thing may have been attracting more flies than we otherwise would have had, but I don't. I just think it made no difference either way, and was stinky to boot.
