It is nearly impossible to stress the importance of a self-healing may to a hobbyist. I convert and paint miniatures, and the use of the X-Acto knife figures prominently into what I do. I suspect my wife should be writing this because this item has saved her table dozens of times. This is a great mat, it stays flat and is an excellent size. Worth the price and more.

This mat really does appear to heal when cut. Just for grins, I made a cut with an X-acto knife some where in the border. Now I can't find where I made the cut.
The big plus is that you don't destroy your work bench when making cuts.
The only negative (And the reason for only 4-Stars) is that I wish that the mat was a little larger like 18" x 24" instead of 12" x 18"
It's a great product if you find yourself slicing up your work area when cutting items with your X-Acto knife.

Recently I've been using a lot of razors, x zacto knives, utility knives..... cutting a lot of Duct tape. I was using cutting boards that i had...'plastic, wood, glass'. Not only did they dull my knives, but more importantly, they didn't cut straight! This product was a blessing, can't ever imagine going back. Now own two

This mat is a good value and actually self-heals. It's great if you have a lot or a little cutting to do. It is a great size, in that you don't have to worry about cutting off the edge. The grid is a great feature for precision cutting. I recommend this product to artists and crafters.
